I want to speak directly to every person reading this who is dreaming of starting a street food business but is not quite sure they can do it.
Industry Data: I started Racheal Cooks as a single mother with very limited resources, no business background, and nothing but a love of Nigerian and African fusion food and a determination to build something of my own. Five years later, I have traded at Canary Wharf, catered for Google, appeared on The World Cook on Amazon Prime, and built a business that I am genuinely, deeply proud of.
I am not telling you this to impress you. I am telling you this because I want you to understand that it is possible — even when it is hard, even when the money is not there yet, even when you have a bad market day and question everything. The first year is the hardest. But if you stay in, learn from every mistake, and keep showing up, year two starts to show you why you started.
Street food is not just a business. It is a way of sharing your culture, your creativity, and your care with strangers who become regulars who become community. That is something that no spreadsheet can fully capture.
Get your certifications. Plan your finances. Perfect your recipes. Build your brand. Apply for events early. Be patient. And cook with love. The rest will follow.
