One of the most expensive mistakes in street food is leaving event applications too late. The best summer events are typically fully booked by January or February of the same year.

Industry Data: The rule is simple: for any summer event (May to September), begin your applications 6 to 8 months in advance — October to January. For Christmas markets, apply by August. For spring events, apply by October the previous year. Treat your event calendar like a sales pipeline — always be filling it months ahead.

Where to look: event agency websites, local council tender portals, Facebook groups for UK street food traders, Instagram accounts of markets and food festivals, and word of mouth from fellow traders. Sign up to newsletters from major event organisers so you receive trader call-outs as soon as they are published.

When applying, present yourself professionally. A strong application includes high-quality food photography, a clear and concise menu, evidence of your certifications and insurance, and — where possible — photos of your branded setup. Event organisers receive hundreds of applications. First impressions matter enormously.
